This season marks one of the strongest sunflower yields our cooperative members have recorded. Favorable rains in Lower Shabelle and improved seed varieties distributed through WAC's input program contributed directly to the stronger output.
Harvested seeds are aggregated at our Balcad facility and cold-pressed into sunflower oil for regional distribution. We expect to process over 40 tonnes in the next six weeks.
Training sessions on post-harvest handling — drying, sorting, and storage — were rolled out in February and have already reduced spoilage by an estimated 18% compared to last season.
